| Description | Some of the Tower stonework joints were surface pointed approximately 25 years ago. This was done as a patch to repair visible mortar loss and cracks. Over the past several years, large portions of the mortar have deteriorated. Moisture has penetrated the joint lines saturating the structural mortar, now essentially sand, behind the blocks, causing it to fail therefore losing its structural integrity. As a result of this failure several of the granite blocks have begun to shift. |
