Description

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Florida Forest Service is seeking sealed bids for the sale of timber. This per unit timber sale is an improvement thinning of 223 acres of natural slash and longleaf pine within the Richloam Tract of Withlacoochee State Forest in Sumter and Hernando Counties of Florida. For location reference purposes, this sale will be divided into two areas; the Trail 6 area and Thriller area. Timber available for harvest will include all blue marked pine timber and in areas where the blue tree marking paint has significantly faded, an operator select harvest will be conducted to leave an average basal area of 50 square feet of pine timber per acre, leaving the largest and best formed pine trees to the satisfaction of the forester in charge. Timber marked with orange paint is excluded from the sale and shall NOT be harvested. Sale boundaries are designated by roads, wetlands, or orange paint. The estimated pine volumes for this sale are 3,900 tons of pulpwood/mulchwood and 4,022 tons of chip-n-saw and better. Bidders can submit an optional per ton price for hardwood pulpwood/mulchwood. This price will not be used in determining the winning bidder. Cutting of the hardwood is to take place in conjunction with the pine harvesting to avoid the hardwood being runover and not utilized and is subject to forester in charge approval. Live oak trees 12" in diameter at breast height and larger will be excluded from the harvest. No estimated hardwood volume figures are available. Due to the vicinity of and inclusion of wetlands within the sale perimeter, all best management practices will be strictly adhered too. The length of the sale agreement will be for twelve (12) months.
