Description

Improvements to the park, including a new two-story pavilion at Frog Pond and revamped athletic fields. Other envisioned improvements to the Frog Pond include a new splash pad and a sloped entry to make the attraction more accessible to people with disabilities. The plan also recommends nearly tripling the size of the Tadpole Playground located next to the pond. Closer to the athletic fields, the city would put an enclosed dog park. Under the plan, those athletic fields would be reconfigured, with the two baseball diamonds now at the park replaced by one diamond and a multiuse field for soccer and other sports. The tennis courts would be shifted to a nearby location to make way for basketball courts, something the Common does not now have. The courts can double as a staging area for events and protests, so the Common's grass does not see as much wear and tear. As of October 13, 2022, this project is in the master planning phase. This will be a mutli-phased project. The city and the nonprofit began seeking public input on the plan in 2019. The public comment period will run through November 30, 2022.
