Description | Environmental Remediation This project consists of asbestos containing materials (ACM) abatement work within the crawl space and basement areas of buildings 3, 57, 65, and 67 of the Stewart Campus Site. Upon completion of the ACM removal, the contractor will be responsible for installing new piping insulation, replacing thermal system insulation (TSI) that has been removed. The work includes the installation of a vapor barrier at all buildings identified within the project documents DESCRIPTION OF WORK A. The work covered by this section involves the pre-renovation removal of asbestos-containing material (ACM) from buildings designated 3, 57, 65, and 67 at the Stewart Campus in Carson City, Nevada. Further, the work covered by this section includes the removal and handling of (ACM) considered to be NESHAP Regulated ACM (RACM) and Category I ACM. These ACM are considered to be Class I and Class II ACM pursuant to 29CFR 1926.1101. The ACM to be removed from the buildings prior to renovation are: black wall tar, thermal system insulation (TSI) pipes, and TSI elbows. The general locations and types of ACM to be removed prior to renovation according to this section are indicated on the accompanying Drawing Sheets PD-1 through PD-4. These drawings are provided for informational purposes only. Contractor is to field verify the quantity or extent of all indicated ACM prior to bidding and is to include in his bid price the removal of all ACM of the type and description indicated on the PD series drawings. This specification section addresses work requirements for those materials considered to be ACM. The work includes the decontamination of items and surfaces in work areas which are currently contaminated or become contaminated with ACM debris. This section also describes procedures and equipment required to protect workers and occupants of the work areas and adjacent areas from contact with airborne asbestos fibers and ACM dust and debris. The work also includes the disposal of the generated ACM wastes. A summary of each general category of ACM removal and accompanying work task, are presented in Part 3 herein. |
