Description

Canal #259 located along Boca Chica Road and Vega Lane in Big Pine Key, Florida consists of installation of two (2) submerged 6’ X 6’ reinforced Class IV concrete box culverts to hydraulically connect Canals #259 and #263. The lack of flushing within the canal system has caused a degradation of the water quality below FDEP dissolved oxygen standards. The culverts will increase the turnover rate for the waterbodies that has shown to be successful at achieving the FDEP water quality standards for dissolved oxygen.
