Description

The Town of Oyster Bay was awarded an $8.7 Million grant for downtown Hicksville from New York State through the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) Program, whose goal is to transform "downtown neighborhoods into vibrant centers that offer a high quality of life and are magnets for redevelopment, business, job creation, and economic and housing diversity. These compact, walkable downtowns are a key ingredient to helping New York State rebuild its economy from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to achieving the State's bold climate goals by promoting the use of public transit and reducing dependence on private vehicles." Through a comprehensive planning effort, the Hicksville Downtown Revitalization Initiative - Strategic Investment Plan, accessible electronically, outlined projects to be financed through the grant which would create open space, reduce traffic impacts, and promote walkability in the project area. As stated by the Hicksville Local Planning Committee, "Our vision is the creation of a vibrant downtown that returns to its "main street" character while improving opportunities for local business owners and incorporating new housing markets to create a model community; with an emphasis on walkability, open space, places to congregate and engaging commuters to view Hicksville as a destination - not merely a transit hub." Engineering services solicited through this RFP are specific to the 'Walkability, Beautification and Sense of Place' project of the Hicksville DRI. The project profiles which define this project consist of Broadway Complete Street (Project Profile L), and Newbridge Road Crossing (Project Profile N - modified). Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Set Aside: No Minority Owned Sub-Contracting Goal: 15% Women Owned Sub-Contracting Goal: 15% Contract term: 24 Months
