Description

Work consists of encapsulating the southern end of the existing pier, approximately 600 linear feet, with new sheet pile walls with a concrete cap. The existing pier structure consists of parallel sheet pile walls with a concrete cap that encapsulated a timber crib structure. The existing sheet pile has started to pull away from the cap and is currently held in place with steel angle brackets and wire rope. Approximately 160 feet of the existing sheets on the channel side have pulled away enough where they are in the driving line of the new sheet pile, and as such these sections of sheet pile will need to be removed. The existing concrete cap will also need to be removed in these reaches. Some sections of sheet pile along the channel have become fully disconnected from the pier, and the concrete cap in this area has fallen into the channel and must be removed. Work includes the clearing of the new driving lines on both the land and channel side of the existing pier, including the removal of several sections of sheet pile, concrete cap, existing angle brackets and wire rope. Along with driving new sheet pile, connecting the walls using wales/ tiebacks and filling the space around the existing pier with granular fill before pouring a new concrete cap. Additional work includes the installation of new steel safety ladders and concrete stairs at the northern edge of the new cap.
