Description | The Cape Porpoise Harbor FNP consists of an 18 foot deep Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW) by 200 feet wide outer entrance channel between Goat and Folly Islands; a channel across the bar 16 feet deep MLLW and 200 feet wide for a distance of 450 feet thence varying in width from 200 to 500 feet for a distance of 480 feet; a combined channel and anchorage 15 feet deep MLLW with a maximum width of 600 feet extending 2,150 feet to the Town Wharf; and a channel 6 feet deep MLLW and 100 feet wide extending about 2,000 feet northerly from the Town Wharf to the head of Porpoise Cove. The proposed work consists of dredging approximately 25,000 cubic yards (cy) of a mix of sand and fine-grained material from shoaled areas in the 6 and 15 foot channels and the 15 foot anchorage of the Cape Porpoise Harbor FNP. The 6 foot channel will be dredged to the authorized project depth, plus allowable one foot allowable overdepth, and the 15 foot channel and anchorage will be dredged to 10 feet, plus one foot allowable overdepth. A mechanical dredge will remove material from the shoaled portions of the Cape Porpoise channel/anchorage, and transport the material in scows to the Cape Arundel Disposal Site (approximately 5 nautical miles away). The anticipated allowable dredging window is between November 1 and March 15. Additional work includes removal of derelict moorings. The work will require significant coordination around the tide cycles. | ||
