Description | Plans call for the construction of a new K-12 building at 420 E. Enon Road A new K-12 building would provide the following additional features: Grades K-6: -comfortable, safe, secure and accessible school building -a large enough cafeteria to accommodate all students -a gymnasium -classrooms with adequate electrical outlets and power for technology -comfortable spaces separated from but within view of teachers for independent or small group work -dedicated playground and recess equipment that does not double as a highly used public playground (although this would be open outside of school hours) -a safe, efficient, and separate drop-off and pick up area from older students, easing traffic and decreasing the risk of accidents Grades 7-12: -comfortable, safe, secure and accessible school building -a regulation sized gymnasium for physical education class, athletic events, and all school assemblies -a high-tech, modern media center with the resources to match our young people’s creativity -comfortable spaces separated from but within view of teachers for independent or small group work -a dedicated engineering classroom -spaces to exhibit art and projects -an instrumental room and a vocal music room One shared K-12 building also has a number of shared spaces and services that would greatly impact all students and teachers, such as: -fully accessible buildings for differently-abled students as well as gender neutral bathrooms and other accessibility features -a shared full-school library with a media specialist not split between two buildings -improved kitchen space with up-to-date equipment allowing for more healthy and fresh foods -safety features such as those listed here. -performance spaces for music and theater The project was placed on the November 2, 2021 ballot as a combined bond issue: a property tax of 6.5 mills and a traditional income tax of 0.5%. The issue failed. As of January 3, 2022, the Board of Education has not determined if the issue will be put to voters in May 2022. The May election would be the last opportunity the school district would have to take advantage of the OFCC’s 26% project reimbursement credit of $9,253,527. If the issue was voted down in November and May, the district would have to complete another facilities process and come back to the voters with a plan to pay for whatever renovations or rebuild options that process leads to. As construction costs continue to rise (by an estimated 7% per year), it is likely that these costs would be higher than what was proposed in 2018, discussed during the Facilities Task Force process in 2019, or than what is proposed for this current combined issue.Total sq ft for project not available at this time. |
