Cadiz Water Conveyance Project

The project consists of a phased water supply project to actively manage the groundwater basin underlying a portion of the Cadiz and Fenner Valleys in the Mojave Desert, conserve renewable native groundwater otherwise lost to evaporation, and create a new reliable water supply for Southern California. Phase 1 will capture approximately 50,000 acres of groundwater per year from a wellfield on the owner's property and deliver it via a pipeline to the Colorado River Aqueduct. Phase 2 will use the available capacity in the soils beneath the ground to store up to 1 million acres of imported water. As of October 1, 2018 the project is in planning stage. On August 31, 2018 state legislation to stop the project was defeated. Phase 1 is approximately 95% permitted and engineering is complete. Phase 2 will undergo a separate environmental review and permitting process after the first phase is implemented. Information regarding the design team, general contractor and a method of selection has not been disclosed.
