Description

Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) in conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service - Dixie National Forest (USFS), and Utah DNR Forestry Fire and State Land (FFSL), is acquiring services in this contract to provide for wildfire hazard reduction and improved wildlife habitat. This project will be utilizing mechanical/hand removal and pruning of standing live and dead pinyon and juniper trees and saplings utilizing Chainsaws and other hand tools and piling downed debris. USFS Specifications Cutting: 1. All live juniper trees with a Diameter at Root Collar (DRC) of 15 inches and below within the designated treatment area are to be Cut and Piled. 2. All live pinyon trees with a Diameter at Root Collar (DRC) of 9 inches and below within the designated treatment area are to be Cut and Piled. 3. No live limbs shall be left on the stumps of cut trees and stump height shall not exceed 4 inches measured on the uphill side. 4. All main branches or stems shall be cut from the bole (trunk) of the tree. 5. All standing and downed dead trees in the project area shall be cut down, bucked, and piled. 6. All cut material, live or dead, branches and boles, shall not exceed 4 feet in length (4 foot bucking standard). 7. No Ponderosa Pine shall be removed or cut. Pruning: 1. Lower branches (ladder fuels) on remaining trees will be pruned to 4 feet or 1/3 of the tree height. Remaining trees should be undamaged. Hand Piling of Slash: 1. All slash and boles up to the 15 inches in diameter shall be piled to facilitate burning this includes activity and existing material. 2. All piles shall be “Teepee” shaped and taller than they are wide (minimum height of 5 feet) 3. Have no logs or limbs extending from the pile more than 12 inches. 4. All piles will be placed in open areas away from residual trees (out of drip line) and not on top of logs or stumps 5. Free of dirt and trash 6. Shall be solid and compact. Not hollow. 7. The Project Inspector will make tests to determine the uniformity of the piling operation.
