Description | Terminal Connectors T1-T2-T3 project is a part of the Terminal Connector Program which seeks to create a post-security walkway for passengers to move from Terminal to Terminal without being required to exit and re-enter transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Screening Checkpoints. This project will provide redundancy between those Security Screening Checkpoints and promote greater opportunity for airlines to operate in multiple Terminals if desired. To achieve these airport goals, the project will consist of new construction as well as building expansions and extensive renovation for portions of the existing Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2) facilities. The Terminal Connector Program also includes a new Security Screening Checkpoint, new baggage claim devices, restrooms, tenant offices, employee Security Screening Checkpoint, passenger circulation ramp replacement and finishes throughout limited areas of the existing T2 building footprint. The new construction portion of the project consists of a two-story, 508 foot long Connector between T1 and T2 and a two-story, 192 foot long Connector between T2 and T3. These steel structure Connectors will be constructed of floor to ceiling glass to maintain the view from the existing roadway to the airfield and will include moving sidewalks, terrazzo flooring, seating areas, concessions, digital messaging displays, and artwork, all focused on enhancing the passenger experience. In addition, the existing ramp level between the Terminals will be reconfigured to support airport operations through new restrooms, tenant offices, storage spaces, waste collection areas and staff parking, all under the new Connectors. T1 will require a 14,200 square foot(SF) expansion to the building and reconfiguration of Gate C2 to accept the new Connector. This new space will provide new restrooms, retail spaces, tenant offices, support spaces, and a new freight elevator across new and existing building footprint. The T2 modifications consist of the renovation and 35,200 SF expansion of the landside areas on both Departures and Arrivals levels. It also adds an airside corridor that connects passenger circulation between the Connectors, on both sides of T2. The enlarged Departures level will provide an enhanced Security Screening Checkpoint with capacity for 6 Automated Screening Lanes, enlarged Security Screening Checkpoint queue space, enlarged landside restrooms, new Airline Ticket Offices and additional concession space. The Arrivals level will include a completely renovated 20,000 SF Baggage Claim Hall with 4 flat plate secure carousels, new baggage service offices, a new air-conditioning chiller plant with capacity for future expansion, and the ability to provide redundant support to adjacent Terminals. A new Florida Power and Light (FPL) Vault and Electrical Switchgear will be installed to provide electrical capacity for the new chiller plant and entire Connector Program. |
