US 522 Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Improvements(Road Diet)

US 522 Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Improvements(Road Diet) located in the Town of Culpeper in Culpeper County, Virginia. The project generally consists of construction activities along US 522 (Sperryville Pike/West Evans Street) between Covington Street and North West Street. The proposed construction activities include the following: 1. A 5’ wide concrete sidewalk with curb & gutter will be constructed on the north side of the roadway between Covington Street and the existing roundabout at the intersection of US 522 with Colonel Jameson Boulevard/Virginia Avenue. 2. Between the existing roundabout at the intersection of US 522 with Colonel Jameson Boulevard/Virginia Avenue and North West Street, the existing roadway will be reduced (Road Diet) from two travel lanes in each direction down to one travel lane in each direction with bicycle lanes in both directions and raised, grassed median islands with street trees and street lighting between new pavement markings for left turn lanes. Sidewalk improvements, including replacement of existing pedestrian ramps, will be constructed on both sides of the roadway as shown on the plans. 3. A mini-roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of US 522 and North Blue Ridge Avenue as part of this project.
