Description | Minor Re-Finish (Screen and Re-Coat) 1. Thoroughly clean the floor 2. Disk the floor with a fine-grit screen back to abrade the top layer of old finish 3. Unless noted otherwise, touch-up any damaged game line paint or markings if necessary; lightly abrade those areas once dry 4. Vacuum and tack the entire floor until it is thoroughly clean, paying particular attention to edges and corners 5. Apply an even coat of finish; allow to dry and re-coat with a second even coat of finish in accordance with the finish manufacturer’s instructions 6. Allow to dry thoroughly Major Re-Finish 1. Document sports/game markings (if existing) 2. Sand the floors to remove ridges, cupping, gouges, and old finishes so as to create a smooth surface free of drum stop marks, gouges, streaks, or shiners; contact the City representative to review deep gouges, damage, or areas where sanding and material removal should be minimized 3. Prep the floors as recommended by the finish manufacturer and accepted wood floor trade association standards (MFMA) 4. Repaint sports/game markings with appropriate paint as recommended by the finish manufacturer 5. Vacuum and tack the entire floor, paying particular attention to edges and corners, as instructed by the finish manufacturer 6. Apply sealer (as required) per finish manufacturer’s instructions 7. Apply a minimum of three (or as many as may be required to provide sufficient coverage) even coats of the specified finish per the finish manufacturer’s instructions, buffing and vacuuming (or tack) between each coat after it dries; ensure complete coverage and uniform appearance |
