Retrofitting the attic air seal and insulation system for the Barre Town EMS Station located at 4 McLaughlin Road. The attic is approximately 3,220 square feet. Work is to include: • Pull up insulation as needed to air seal penetrations in the attic floor at the ceiling plane and through the wall to the bays (tops of interior/exterior walls, plumbing and wire penetrations, leakage at attic hatch, bathroom fan, etc.); • Modify the opening in the ceiling of the medical supply closet into an attic access, including by constructing an attic hatch of approximate dimensions 2’ x 3’, air seal access by installing insulation dam around access, insulate the hatch to the same R-value as the surrounding attic in a manner that insulation is permanently attached to the access hatch such that it remains in place with the hatch is moved, and weatherstripping the hatch; • Install 10” of loose fill cellulose onto the attic flat in accordance with Section C303.1.1.1 of the 2020 Vermont Commercial Building Energy Standards: The thickness of blown-in or sprayed fiberglass and cellulose roof/ceiling insulation shall be written in inches on markers and one or more of such markers shall be installed for every 300 square feet of attic area throughout the attic space. The markers shall be affixed to the trusses or joists and marked with the minimum initial installed thickness with numbers not less than 1 inch in height. Each marker shall face the attic access opening; and • Cut access into attic space above ambulance bays, construct an access hatch of approximate dimensions 2’ x 3’, and air seal access by installing insulation dam around access and weatherstripping the hatch.
