Landfill Wind Fence Construction

Construction of fencing at the New Hanover County Landfill located at 5210 Highway 421 North, Wilmington, North Carolina. Approximately 2,380 feet of new fencing will be constructed at the site. Contractors are advised to visit the site prior to submitting bids to ensure they have the proper equipment to access the fence construction area (soft sand). Specific project specifications are as follows: Fence posts shall be 4” X 4” X 16’ treated; 1. Fence posts shall be installed 3’ below ground surface (13’ extending above ground surface); 2. Fencing shall consist of 2” X 4” galvanized welded fence wire; 3. Wire rolls shall be 72” tall; 4. Fencing shall consist of two (2) rolls slightly overlapped and attached with galvanized hogrings; 5. Fencing shall be installed such that NO gaps exist between the base of fencing and ground to prevent waste from blowing underneath the fence; 6. Fence posts shall be installed with slight angle towards inside of new landfill cell; 7. Fence posts shall be installed every twenty (20) feet; 8. Contractor shall install/construct walk-through gates in fencing per exhibit drawing (total of 5); 9. Walk-through gates shall have NO gaps between the ground and base/sides of gate to reduce the likelihood of waste blowing through the gaps; 10. Fence posts will be tamped in, with 100 lbs. of concrete on every post; 11. Fence wire shall be mounted to posts with galvanized U nails; 12. Exact location/arrangement of fencing shall be determined in field with County staff; 13. Bids shall be based on total of 2,380 linear feet of new fencing being constructed/installed; 14. Fence corners, start/end points, and every 3rd post shall be braced/anchored and poured with concrete (100 lbs/post) so that fencing remains vertically oriented and maintains integrity.
