Description | 1. Removal of trees and vegetation; and clearing and grubbing slope adjacent to Ware River Branch mainline track around MP 16.50 2. Excavation of slope to prepare for installation of retaining wall with rip rap revetment. Excavated material shall be wasted along the railroad right-of-way within 5 miles of the project site and shall not be removed from the railroad right-of-way. 3. Construct soldier pile and lagging retaining wall at a 15-foot offset from centerline of track. Wall is approximately 250 feet in length with H-beam soldier piles spaced at 8 feet on center. H-piles shall be installed in drilled shafts set in pumpable concrete. Soldier piles lengths vary in length from 8-feet to 28-feet with an average length of 23-feet. Soldier piles typically embedded 2/3 total length with 1/3 length exposed. Lagging system shall be designed by Contractor and approved by MassDOT Authorized Representative. Lagging shall be pre-cast concrete beams, cut to fit and stacked between soldier piles with spacers to allow for free drainage of backfill. 4. Furnish and install a layer of geotextile (such as Mirafi 170N) to cover the exposed surface of the slope and back side of retaining wall lagging 5. Furnish and install a layer of 3/4” crushed stone for base of concrete lagging panels. 6. Furnish and install graded riprap revetment on geotextile separation fabric to top of retaining wall 7. Regrade track roadbed and drainage ditch in front of wall to carry drainage to existing cross culverts. Form ditch with layer of new 3/4” crushed stone. 8. Perform work necessary to meet requirements of conditions or determinations issued by permitting 9. Clean up site. |
