Bridge Washing/Deck Sealing NYSDOT Region 8

This project will consist of washing bridges and sealing bridge decks on select bridges located on federal aid eligible state routes throughout the Region. The accumulation of dirt and debris, if left in place, creates a condition that is corrosive and can accelerate the ordinary deterioration of bridge components. In addition to the corrosive condition that dirt and debris accumulation causes, accelerated corrosion to reinforcing bar (rebar) within concrete decks can occur when chemicals found in road de-icing salts contacts rebar within concrete decks. To prevent deicing salts from seeping into concrete decks to the rebar within, the concrete decks of select structures will be treated with a sealant. The objective of this project is to decelerate the deterioration of bridges included in this project. This project will maintain continuity of the highway by performing maintenance that will abate typical degradation of bridge components to maintain the structural integrity of bridges. The selected bridges are in various municipalities in Columbia, Dutchess, Ulster, Rockland, Orange, Putnam and Westchester Counties.
