Herbicide Treatment of Watershield on Lake Sherwood

The Monongahela National Forest requires herbicide treatment to remove Watershield (Brasenia schreberi) an aquatic plant with floating leaves in an approximately 5.72-acre area on Lake Sherwood located within the Lake Sherwood Recreation Area. The plant is currently impacting recreational use at the boat rental, boat launch, and swimming area. The Forest has received dozens of complaints in the last year because of the condition of these areas due to the infestation of this plant. Service needed is the treatment of water shield with aquatic herbicide so that a majority of the material is removed from the problem areas within 60 days. A majority will be considered 90% or 5.148 acres of the treatment surface free of water shield after 60 days as observed by the Forest Service.
