Description

The Sibley Unit Outflow Pipe project site consists of a conduit formed by welding railroad tank cars approximately 96” in diameter together. The pipe is approximately 180 feet long. The number of cars that make up the conduit is unknown. The depth of the pipe has not been determined. The age of the pipe or year of installation are unknown. While the condition of the pipe is unknown, it has been determined that it has reached the end of its serviceable life. The FWS wants to replace the pipe with a conduit that will provide equivalent service at a minimum. FWS is satisfied with the current rate of drawdown of backwater through the pipe when the Mississippi River begins to drop. This factor is as important as the flow capacity during the normal storm events.
