A pre-bid conference will not be held for this project. This report concerns our recent subsurface exploration and geotechnical review for the proposed 30th Street North Pavement Rehabilitation project located east of Manning Avenue and just south of the Lake Elmo Airport. A geotechnical exploration program was performed to identify the subsurface conditions and aid in project design and construction. 1.1 Scope of Work We recently performed a geotechnical exploration program in accordance with our proposal dated July 3, 2019, and your subsequent authorization to proceed. The scope of our work for the referenced project was as follows: Arrange to have buried public utilities marked through the Gopher-State-One-Call system. Notify FAA and Mn/DOT Aeronautics to arrange for locating FAA buried utilities/cables at the airfield within the proposed drilling areas. Several utilities were located within or adjacent to the proposed drilling areas including sewer, water, communication, and electric lines servicing the airfield and associated hangars. Explore the subsurface conditions by performance of five (5) standard penetration test borings to unit depths of approximately six (6) feet within the existing 30th Street North pavement areas as shown on the attached sketch using a truck mounted drill rig. Visually classify the extracted soil samples. Selected samples were submitted to the laboratory for moisture content, mechanical analysis, Atterberg Limit, and organic content testing. The results of the laboratory tests are included on the boring logs and/or attached to this report. Prepare a geotechnical engineering report which includes the following information: Sketch showing the approximate boring locations. Logs of soil test borings showing the soil and groundwater data. Document the existing in-place pavement, aggregate base, and sub-base thicknesses, if encountered, at the boring locations. Written description of encountered soil and groundwater conditions. |
