Repair to Roadway Pavement

Crews of the Harford County Division of Water and Sewer excavate and repair underground utilities on a routine basis. When those repairs are within the paved area of a roadway, the excavation is backfilled and temporarily patched with crushed stone or cold patch. In most cases, County crews will have cut the existing paving such that the Contractor is only required to remove the temporary patch before installing the permanent patch. Under this Category of work, the Contractor will be directed to install a permanent patch in accordance with the terms of this contract and applicable standards. These locations may be in Harford County roads or Maryland State roads. The Contractor is responsible for providing traffic controls for Routine Repairs. On some occasions repairs to underground utilities within heavily travelled Harford County or Maryland State roads require immediate patching. In these cases the County will notify the Contractor of the required patching as soon possible after identifying the extent of the repair. Contractor shall mobilize the necessary staff, equipment, and materials to the work location within 8-hours of notification unless directed otherwise by County personnel. The patch must be installed promptly so that the roadway can be returned to service as soon as practicable. Due to the nature of this work, the number of Emergency Repairs is uncertain, but is typically less than six (6) per year.
