Interstate Lighting Maintenance AVL

Maintenance of approximately 7,000 luminaires at roughly 270 locations along the interstates in Utah. Lighting systems consist of high mast, cobra head, under deck wall pack type and pendant hung as well as some solar. Most systems run on 480 volt single phase power through a lighting enclosure or pedestal containing contactors and photocell for control. Most circuits are run underground with splices made in underground J boxes with approved connectors. Most of UDOT’s cobra head luminaire poles are a breakaway type and must be replaced in the event of an accident. Luminaires, poles and hardware are State Furnished Material but contractors must have basic electrical knowledge and training to install, troubleshoot and maintain these systems.
