Description

The project includes clearing, grading and paving of a 10’ wide multiple-use trail (greenway), three pedestrian bridges, paving of two parking lots, landscaping, hardscape and custom timber signage. This section of greenway is approximately 1,850 linear feet. Three pedestrian bridges are part of this project: one approximately 32’ long stringer bridge across Goldmine Branch and two pre-fabricated steel truss pedestrian bridges to cross the Middle Fork New River. A new trailhead at US 321 will be established. This trailhead will be paved and include a bio-retention cell to improve water quality of stormwater from the proposed paved parking lot. The trailhead will also include a concrete pad with bicycle racks, a bench, a picnic table and a map kiosk to orient trail users. A new driveway will be constructed off of US 321 for the parking lot in accordance with the NCDOT permit dated July 31, 2020. No work may take place in the Middle Fork New River or its tributaries prior to April 15th or after October 15th in accordance with the North Carolina Trout Moratorium.
