Description | The Contractor will furnish and install a new 108 foot precast concrete crossing surface and perform 685 feet of approach track work at the Railroad's Washington Avenue grade crossing (USDOT Inventory #917855K). Work is inclusive of removal of existing crossing surface, installation of new precast concrete crossing surface, approach track work, work zone traffic control, sidewalk reconstruction and approach paving. Washington Ave regularly experiences large volumes of traffic Monday's through Friday's in between the hours of 6:00am and 6:00pm, especially during morning and evening rush hour periods. Construction activities by the Contractor to replace the railroad crossing surface shall be considerate of these volumes of traffic, keeping as many if not all travel lanes open during this time. The Contractor is strongly encouraged to perform construction activities requiring temporary reductions in the number of through travel lanes during off-peak periods such a s nights or weekends. Under no circumstances will the Contractor be permitted to reduce the flow of traffic to less than one through travel lane in either direction. Contractors will also be restricted from performing work during the Memorial Day (May 26th thru May 30th ), Fourth of July (June 30th thru July 10th) and Labor Day (September 1st thru September 5th ) weekends that impacts the normal flow of traffic.
