Description | https://www.keloland.com/top-stories/faa-awards-10-8-million-for-new-des-moines-airport-terminal/ DES MOINES, Iowa – The Des Moines International Airport is getting $10.8 million from the Federal Aviation Administration to help with improvements and construction of a new terminal. The federal funds are part of nearly $1 billion from the Biden Administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The U.S. Department of Transportation announced the money will benefit 99 airports across the country and will help improve security, airport access, and build or improve terminals. The money coming to the Des Moines International Airport will go toward replacing a terminal that was built in 1948 and the FAA says is beyond its useful life and operating above capacity. Over the first two years of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the U.S. DOT said the Des Moines International Airport is getting a total of $15.8 million to pay for the preparation and construction ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ https://www.saltwire.com/nova-scotia/business/us-awards-nearly-1-billion-to-airports-in-infrastructure-grants-100828696/ The awards include $10.8 million to Des Moines International Airport in Iowa to replace the 1948 terminal that is operating above capacity and $29 million to Salt Lake City International Airport in Utah for a terminal and concourse redevelopment program. This is the second phase of funding - the FAA awarded nearly $1 billion for airport terminal projects announced for 85 airports last year. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ https://newsadvance.com/news/national/inflation-taking-bite-out-of-new-infrastructure-projects/article_9bf36f5b-8c3d-535f-9d32-0fba8b2d796e.html The price of a foot of water pipe in Tucson, Arizona: up 19%. The cost of a ton of asphalt in a small Massachusetts town: up 37%. The estimate to build a new airport terminal in Des Moines, Iowa: 69% higher, with a several year delay. Officials at Des Moines International Airport were counting on the federal infrastructure money to replace an aging terminal with a modern structure. Four years ago, a new 14-gate terminal was projected to cost about $434 million and be open by 2026. By this spring, the cost had soared to $733 million. That's more than the airport can afford, even with the federal aid. So officials are planning to break the project into phases, building just five new gates by 2026 at a cost of $411 million. "If inflation continues, it may be a decade before the project gets completely done," airport Executive Director Kevin Foley said. Other projects also have been rocked by inflationary price hikes. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Des Moines Airport Authority (Authority) will be publishing a request for statements of qualifications (RFQs) for Construction Manager at Risk (CMR) services to provide Construction services for its future terminal construction project at the Des Moines International Airport. The future terminal project is planned as a multi-year project to replace all or part of the existing terminal. The future terminal will be located on the existing Des Moines International Airport campus, 5800 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321. |
