Description

The College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) is poised to improve the standard of excellence for animal learning programs with the design and construction of the Multi-Species Animal Learning Center (MALC) on the grounds of the Waterman Agricultural and Natural Resources Laboratory. This project will support the worldwide One Health initiative and strengthen the College's three important mission areas of education, research and outreach management. It will provide the space, technology, equipment and amenities to facilitate human-animal interactions that demonstrate and promote current and future best teaching, learning and management practices. Total Project Cost $52 Million Construction Cost $40.1 Million Other Funding $52 Million Estimated C-A Fee 0.40% to 0.45% Submit all questions regarding this RFQ in writing to Steve Munger at munger.6@osu.edu with the project number included in the subject line (no phone calls please). Questions will be answered and posted to Opportunities page on the OFCC website at http://ofcc.ohio.gov on a regular basis until one week before the response deadline. The name of the party submitting a question will not be included on the Q&A document. EDGE - Percent of initial TOTAL CxA Fee 5.0% MALC will allow the college to eliminate multiple logistical constraints associated with transporting undergraduate students off campus for coursework, instead allowing animals to be brought to the facility for teaching purposes. Teaching and research space will accommodate learning related to agricultural and companion animals with specific animal housing/holding space designated for equine, swine, beef, small ruminants, and poultry. The facility is anticipated to include a combination of the following: o Various sizes of multi-functional teaching & outreach space, incorporating operable partitions for flexibility o Project is envisioning community outreach through public engagement and viewing of animals throughout the facility with biosecurity standards in mind. o 200+ seat arena capable of accommodating multiple animal species and doubling as event space. o Various animal housing/holding areas for multiple species of agricultural animals incorporating flexible planning strategies to accommodate evolving industry standards as well as non-contact public viewing & biosecurity o Permanent housing for equine, swine, small ruminants/beef, and poultry o Short-term housing for other species o Animal health care, nutrition, and reproduction areas o Animal pasture with suitable shelter, all-weather footing and fencing, and subsurface drainage o Covered exterior concrete pad for outside penning and staging during events o Planning, design and coordination for manure management will require coordination with CFAES, City of Columbus and previous study completed by the University. o Delivery, storage, and staging areas necessary to support animal housing/holding and arena operations. o Office and support space for faculty, staff, and student workers
