Description | This project will consist of providing corrections to the existing Phantom Ranch Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The WWTP is located at the base of the Grand Canyon in the Phantom Ranch developed area adjacent to the Colorado River. The plant has a maximum design flow capacity of 12,000 gallons per day. Improvements being provided include a new headworks structure with comminutor, demolition of existing headworks structure, integrated, fixed-film, activated sludge (IFAS) system, replacement of aeration system in aerobic digester, repairs to clarifier, replacement of existing tertiary treatment unit with cloth filter press system, installation of variable frequency drives on existing blowers, and providing controls and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) hardware. Demolition and removal of equipment being replaced is also included. The plant must be kept in service during construction. Time for construction on site is limited to 6-months with the remainder of contract time allotted to approval, fabrication, and delivery of equipment and materials, some of which are expected to have long lead times. Access to the site will be provided by helicopter using helicopters provided under separate contract to the Government. The contractor will be responsible for working with the Government to minimize the required flights to construct the project and will be responsible for all rigging, slings, and related material required to carry equipment and materials to and from the project site. No existing housing is available at the project location. The selected contractor will be required to provide a construction camp for workers adjacent to the project site. Previous contractor experience in construction at extremely remote sites in desert environments is desireable. |
