Description

Construct a new storm water infrastructure to replace the existing storm water infrastructure which is located under the Original Building (initially constructed as a department store), Van Metre Hall and the Plaza at the Arlington, Virginia Campus. The relocation of this segment of County-Wide storm water infrastructure will provide greatly improved accessibility to allow for maintenance of the facility to ensure that neither obstructions occur or that deficiencies develop in the facility that could cause upstream flooding of areas of Arlington County. The storm water infrastructure will consist of a nine foot by seven foot (9’x7’) box culvert and related junction boxes and manholes. The site for the project is tightly confined by the presence of buildings on either side. The north/leg of the storm drain is approximately four hundred feet (400’) and the invert is approximately twenty feet (20’) below existing grade. The east/west leg of the storm drain is approximately two hundred feet (200’) and the invert is approximately twelve feet (12’) below grade. The project also includes the demolition of the Original Arlington Building which is an approximately 133K GSF building clad with a brick veneer exterior. The building contains asbestos and abatement will be included in the scope of the demolition.
