94th Avenue to 159th Street Intersection Traffic Safety Study

The La Grange Road and 159th Street intersection is just over 1,250 feet to the west and during the peak periods the traffic queues from this intersection back up into the 94th Avenue and 159th Street intersection. This intersection has existing red-light cameras. 159th Street is classified as a major arterial and 94th Avenue is classified as a major collector. Proposed improvements must be coordinated with IDOT, CCDoTH and the Village of Orland Park. The project must follow the federal process so it is eligible for design engineering and construction grant funding in the future. 159th Street at 94th Avenue is a signalized, six lane cross-section with two through lanes and dedicated left and right-turn lanes. The left-turn lanes are currently not restricted during the full green. Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) for 94th Avenue is 16,500 vehicles from the north and 13,100 from the south. Per IDOT's webpage, AADT for 159th Street is 32,200 vehicles.
