Traffic Study for the Waste Disposal and Recycling Center

The City of Durham is soliciting proposals from qualified consulting firms to provide a comprehensive traffic study for the Waste Disposal & Recycling Center (WD&RC), including the existing traffic patterns for the scale house, transfer stations, and convenience center. This review will take into account current operations and planned future operations. The results of this study will assist the City with the reconfiguration of the WD&RC. The main goal of this study is to provide the City with recommendations to reduce traffic congestion, wait times and the risk of collisions and other accidents. Below is an outline of minimum items to be considered within the scope of work. Consultants are encouraged to recommend additional analysis that will result in a comprehensive traffic study. 1. Traffic Routing – Evaluation of the current routing system to determine if the creation of additional entrance/exits are needed. 2. Intersection Analysis - Examine and evaluate the efficacy and sufficiency of the current entry and exit points of the facility, both within the facility and those that connect the public road. 3. Lane Assignments – Evaluation of the current lane assignments to determine if a reduction, increase, or reassignment of travel lanes is needed to improve vehicle access. 4. Safety – Evaluation of the current overall safety of the current configuration and recommendations for improvement to reduce risk of accidents.
