Description

The Project consists of the construction of automotive brake testing infrastructure, specifically a "brake lane" and "slope hill". The brake lane will consist of a 929 LF ( 2,358 SY) track consisting of a specialized asphalt mix design to produce specific peak coefficient of friction. In addition to the specialized brake surface, the brake lane will include 2,094 SY of SCDOT specification asphalt. The slope hill will consist of two concrete paved hills of 10% and 20% grade. The 10% grade hill is 150 LF long. The 20% grade hill is 100 LF long. Adjacent to each slope section will be a section of basalt tile to allow for split surface friction tests. The basalt tile will total 1,500 SF and will be set in a concrete bed. In addition to the concrete and basalt tile surfaces, the slope hills will include 1,350 SY of SCDOT specification asphalt. In addition to pavement, the project will include earthwork ( 23,500 CY total earthwork), stormwater infrastructure, sediment & erosion control, signage & striping, and fencing.
