Description | The Department of Natural Resources is seeking bids for for prescribed rotational goat grazing on 43.5 acres at Afton State Park in Washington County. The goal of the project is to reduce the density of woody shrubs in bluff prairie and oak woodland communities. General Project Description: This bid solicitation is for prescribed rotational goat grazing on 43.5 acres at Afton State Park in Washington County. The goal of the project is to reduce the density of woody shrubs in bluff prairie and oak woodland communities. The primary vegetation targeted for removal includes buckthorn, prickly ash, honeysuckle and sumac. The 2 project locations are near the Visitor Center (T27, R20, S2) and park office (T27, R20, S10). See attached project maps for approximate size and location of paddocks. The project involves grazing one paddock near the Visitor Center and one paddock near the park office. The total project area is 43.5 acres split between the two different paddocks. 1. The Visitor Center area (17.5 acres) is completely surrounded by park maintenance roads and trails. Parts of this area have been hand cut or brush mowed over the last four years. Brush size ranges from first year re-sprouts to 10+ foot tall buckthorn. The Visitor Center area is mixed between flat on top and sloped (average 21% slope) with a north/northwest aspect. Access to this project area will be via park maintenance road. 2. The Office area (26 acres) is surrounded by park roads, trails, and restored prairie. Previous cutting in this area was done more than five years ago. Brush size ranges from seedling to 10+ foot tall buckthorn. The office area is a mixture of flat and sloped (average 32% slope) with a south/southeast aspect. Access to the top of this area is near the park shop. Access to the bottom of this area will be from the main park road. The work covered under this solicitation shall consist of the labor, equipment, materials, tools, transportation, and incidentals necessary prescribed rotational goat grazing on 43.5 acres at Afton State Park in Washington County. The goal of the project is to reduce the density of woody shrubs in bluff prairie and oak woodland communities. The primary vegetation targeted for removal includes buckthorn, prickly ash, honeysuckle and sumac. The contract that results from this Request for Bids prohibits any construction trade work as defined by the Department of Labor, Prevailing Wage Division and Minn. Stat. 177.41 through 177.44. Bid Bond: 5% ASSURANCE OF COMPLETION (PAYMENT AND PERFORMANCE BOND) Not applicable SCHEDULE / TIME OF COMPLETION Work cannot commence before receipt of Notice to Proceed. Final Completion of the work shall be on or before June 30, 2023. |
