Description

Currently, there are no provisions for ADA accessibility for inmates at the following location: Maryland Reception, Diagnostic and Classification Center (MRDCC) 550 E Madison Street Baltimore, Maryland 21202 The purpose of this project is to correct this condition by providing ADA accessibility as follows: 1. Inmate Cells (Base Bid): Combine 10 existing cells on the third floor into 5 ADA accessible cells each serving up to two physically challenged inmates. The units to be modified are: 3149-50; 53-54; 55-56; 57-58; and 62-63. Each combined unit will have a new fully accessible combination lavatory/toilet and will have modifications made to the existing lower bunk beds for accessibility. Base bid includes ensuring ligature resistant ADA grab bars can withstand the push-pull forces as applied by a 300lbs person. No deviation from this requirement permitted, GC responsible for submitting certification by a licensed State of Maryland engineer attesting to resistance to such forces. Base Bid also includes new cell doors, frames, and hardware with exception of reuse of existing locksets and cores. See Section 012300, Add Alternate #3 regarding unit pricing and installation of new locksets and cores in lieu of reuse of existing components. B. Accessible Shower (Add-Alternate 1): Convert existing Tub Room (3CM Shower) into a fully accessible open shower area. New shower seat must be capable of withstanding 900 lbs of weight as specified. Add Alternate #1 includes ensuring ligature resistant ADA grab bars can withstand the pushpull forces as applied by a 300lbs person. For durability and safety, no deviations from these requirement permitted, GC responsible for submitting certification by a licensed State of Maryland engineer attesting to resistance to such forces. C. Accessible Open Restroom (Add-Alternate 2): Modify existing open restroom (Medical Bullpen #2) on the third floor into a fully accessible open restroom. The existing toilet and lavatory will be replaced with a combination lavatory/toilet. Add Alternate #2 includes ensuring ligature resistant ADA grab bars can withstand the push-pull forces as applied by a 300lbs person. For durability and safety, no deviation from this requirement permitted, GC responsible for submitting certification by a licensed State of Maryland engineer attesting to resistance to such forces.
