Ashland Common Park - Alameda County

A vacant lot on East 14th Street that kids sometimes use for soccer games soon may be transformed into a community park with a stage, children's play area and space for pop-up markets. Development of the Ashland Common, in the Ashland area of unincorporated Alameda County, will be funded through a $7.2 million grant from the California Department of Parks and Recreation. Alameda County owns the approximately 38,100-square-foot parcel at 16640 E. 14th St., which is mostly used for soccer games and other events hosted by the Alameda County Deputy Sheriff's Activities League. The county now plans to turn over the property to the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District, which will operate the future park. Plans also call to Construct a plaza with picnic tables and open space area with lighting, water recreation feature, outdoor fitness area with lighting, playground with lighting, walking path with lighting, amphitheater with lighting and stage, shade structure and restroom/partner program hub. This project is part of Proposition 68 which is to receive funding from statewide Park Grants. Per the owner, as of November 4, 2021, a design team has been selected. Owner states that they have not yet selected a general contractor.
