Description | For Radford Ratliff Slide The Radford Ratliff site is located at coordinates Lat N 37.2257, Long W 82.5004. Driving directions from Pikeville, KY are: south on US23 approximately 8.3 miles, take the KY-3174 East Ramp and continue on KY 3174 for 8.2 miles, turn right onto KY 195, continue for 9.3 miles, turn right onto Route KY 197 for approximately 3.0 miles, turn right onto the blacktop road at the Sycamore Market onto Sycamore Road, drive approximately 1.2 miles, turn right onto Little Panther Branch. The site involves a large landslide that broke from a pre-law bench (push over material) above the Radford Ratliff house seat. The slide material (mud flow) traveled down the drain approximately 650 feet and deposited a significant amount of mud and debris into the yard and driveway. The landslide damaged a drilled water well, out building, and sawmill. The slide did not strike the home. The landslide deposited material in two (2) more locations below Radford Ratliff's house seat. All these sites will be reclaimed. The majority of the slide material remains just below the pre-law mine bench in an unstable condition. This material will be excavated and hauled to the mine bench waste area. The waste area has trees larger than 3 inches that will be cut. The existing access to the top of the landslide and waste area will be require grading. Trees greater than 3 inches in diameter that are removed between April 1st and October 31st will result in compensation to Fish and Wildlife (F&W) for the impacted bat habitat. If this occurs, a change order will address the additional cost of the compensation. Trees larger than 3" in diameter or greater (breast height) will be cut in the slide and transition zone. These trees are considered unstable and will not require F&W compensation.
