Constitution Trail Extension - Lafayette Street to Hamilton Road - 40100100-70051 - City of Bloomington

The proposed new segment of multi-use path on the Constitution Trail is located in the southeast portion of the city and will start at Lafayette Street and end at Hamilton Road. The project is adjacent to a mobile home neighborhood and connects users to nearby businesses, downtown Bloomington, and another business district on the southeast side of Bloomington. The path will also connect to Hamilton Road, the major east-west corridor south of I-55 Business. Phase I preliminary engineering was funded by the city in FY2022 with Illinois Department of Transportation Phase I approval expected in FY2023. Phase II design, plans, specifications and estimates is expected to begin in FY2024 and finish in FY2025. The city intends to apply for the next round of an Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program grant to fund 80% of the estimated construction cost in summer/fall of 2025. Construction of the path is expected to begin in FY25 provided the ITEP grant is awarded to the city. Operating Impact: This project would be include a trail extension. This is maintained by Public Works as needed as part of the annual resurfacing of streets. As of April 27, 2023, this project is included in the City of Bloomington's FY 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Program and funding for construction is allotted for FY 2025. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
