Description

Project Category Code: Landscaping, Miscellaneous Description: City of Beatrice, Nebraska (City) is seeking responses to this Request for Proposals (RFP) from interested parties for the restoration of the historic waterfall at Chautauqua Park in Beatrice, Nebraska Purpose: City of Beatrice, Nebraska (City) is seeking responses to this Request for Proposals (RFP) from interested parties for the restoration of the historic waterfall at Chautauqua Park in Beatrice, Nebraska. Background: In 1936 the waterfall was built in Chautauqua Par. The falls included a 4' fall in to small ponds of water which led into a 100' x 30' pond surrounded by large rocks. Lighting was installed around the area in 1938. In 2006 the falls were resurrected by putting a pump in from the duck pond to the east. However, the pump was lost during a flood a few years later. The falls have been dry ever since. Contact: All questions concerning the request for proposals should be in writing and submitted to Mark Pethoud, Public Properties Director, by email at mpethoud@beatrice.ne.gov. SCOPE OF SERVICES Scope of Work: Provide a design and installation of plumbing and rock work. Create a pleasing rock wall concept similar to the current wall, maintain a water flow of 14,200 gph to highlight a cascading waterfall and achieve a pleasing visual and auditory result. Design Specifications: The City of Beatrice will: 1. Install a 1" inch water line that connects the City's water distribution system to the waterfall. 2. Install a 200 Amp electrical service. 3. Provide topsoil, if needed Contractor will: 1. Provide and install plumbing, masonry, and rock work. 2. Must deliver full 200 gpm into the bottom basin to achieve our desired downstream results 3. Design a. Make water appear like magic from rocks (no visible outlets) b. Keep rook work similarto existing design, but modifications and revisions may be proposed. c. Create water cascade across as much of the wall as possible. d. Cascading water ultimately drains into a holding basin. e. Must at least have outlets from the obvious drops. f. Must use the existing basin locations. 4. Technical concepts a. Low maintenance - 30-year lifespan b. Individual hidden value control for each outlet. c. Previous outlets were 1/4 " copper tubing, but replacements can be different material or size. d. One large-bore outlet directly into the top holding basin. Page 3 of 8 Other Specifications: 1. Water features to be in use during the park's open hours. 2. Existing stone shall be incorporated as much as possible. 3. New stone added shall be similar to the existing stone. 4. The reservoir shall use weight-bearing underground water matrix blocks. 5. The reservoir shall hold approximately 1,500 gallons of water. 6. The pumps shall be housed in protective vaults. 7. An auto-fill valve shall be installed to keep the reservoir water at the appropriate level.
