Description | SCOPE OF WORK: This project includes two (2) separate sites at Mississippi River State Fish and Wildlife Area’s Red’s Landing Wildlife Management Unit – Sand Slough Log Road and Mud Slough Levee: Sand Slough Log Road – After floodwaters receded, varying depths of sand was deposited onto the surface of Sand Slough Log Road. In five (5) areas along the Sand Slough Road, the floodwaters washed out varying depths of the road, creating low spots that hold water. The Contractor shall remove the trees or driftwood that are laying on or near the road and regrade deposited sand on Sand Slough Log Road, creating a final graded drivable surface: • Remove Trees and Driftwood – The log road has approximately five (5) logs that will need to be removed from the roadway. The approximate size of the logs are 12 inches in diameter and 20’ 0” LF long. These logs will need to be moved 20’ 0” LF from the roadway into the forest. They will not need to be removed from the site. There is also a dead fallen tree that is estimated to be 24 inches dbh that is blocking the roadway. Contractor to confirm size of tree (see Site Access and Notes below and Attachment #3 – Photographic Inventory). This tree shall be cut up and removed from the roadway per the above referenced parameters. • Regrade Sand Slough Log Road – This area is a large sandy bottomland forest that has received a layer of sand deposited onto it by the flood. The Contractor shall regrade the roadway using a road grader or similar equipment. The sand must be graded in such a manner to avoid the roadway becoming a channel to retain water. Sand shall be retrained on-site and spread alongside the road where possible. No standing trees will be removed in the process. See below for dimensions. Note that sand may not be placed on U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) property. USFWS property is properly designated by signage to the West of the log road. The final graded roadway shall be able to withstand ATV/UTV, four-wheel drive pickup, dump truck, bulldozer, excavator and similar equipment access. • Regrade Low Spots - The five (5) low spots will need to be graded/leveled to prevent the low spots from holding water (see Attachment #1 – Aerial Imagery). Any grading or filling material will be taken from or along the roadway or adjacent shoulders. • Aggregate - Contractor to provide, deliver, and install CA6 aggregate onto the roadway surface at a depth of 3 inches (See Project Specifications and Requirements #3 – Coarse Aggregates Specification). See Dimensions (below) for length and width of Sand Slough Log Road. This portion of the scope shall be provided as a separate line item on BidBuy and on the bid forms. Repair Mud Slough Levee Breach - After the flood event, water inundation and current have eroded the impoundment levee, causing water from Sand Slough to drain into Mud Slough. Sandbags and other fill materials have been placed as a temporary repair. The approximate dimensions of the eroded area are 70’ 0” LF long x 25’ 0” LF wide x 5’ 0” LF deep. • Temporary Repair Material Removal - The Contractor shall remove and dispose of the temporary repair material, including, but not limited to the sandbags. The sand from the sandbags may be spread along Sand Slough Log Road along with the other sand deposits. The sandbags will need to be properly disposed of off-site by the Contractor. • Levee Repair - The Contractor shall install and compact earthen fill material within the breach in Mud Slough Levee (See Project Specifications and Requirements #3 – Earthen Fill Material Specification). The clay earthen fill material shall be compacted to between 90 to 92%. It is preferred that fill material is recovered on-site or sourced nearby. Contractor shall provide and deliver fill material above the on-site quantity. The clay earthen fill material and adjacent west berm repairs shall be protected with RR-4 rip rap 100’0” LF long (extending 15’ 0” LF above and below the breach repairs along the West berm) x 15’ 0” LF wide x 2’ 0” FT deep as a mitigation effort to prevent a future breach (See Project Specifications and Requirements #2 – Rip Rap. Also see Attachment #2 – Mud Slough Levee breach imagery). • Seeding - Seed all remaining areas within the project limits (See Project Specifications and Requirements #4 – Seeding. Also see Attachment #2 - Mud Slough Levee breach imagery.). |
