Blanco Gardens Drainage Improvements

Work is intended to reduce flood risk in the Blanco Gardens Neighborhood in San Marcos, Hays County, Texas. The project would include the installation of approximately 8,500 linear feet of underground stormwater lines. Approximately 8,000 linear feet of stormwater line would be installed in existing drainage, transportation, and utility right-of-way and/or easement. Approximately 500 linear feet of stormwater line would be installed in a proposed easement on private property. The currently proposed easement is up to 200 feet wide and covers an area of approximately 1.7 acres; however, the final easement will likely bereduced pending final design and landowner negotiations. This segment of stormwater line would discharge directly to the San Marcos River. Grading and excavation will occur to improve surface water drainage. Approximately 7,200 linear feet of grading will occur in existing open-channel drainages in easements behind residential parcels. This grading will restore and improve the drainage capacity of the channels. Additionally, a new-location drainage channel would be constructed on city-owned property. The channel would be approximately 3,000 feet long, up to 200 feet wide, and would cover approximately 11 acres. The channel would discharge stormwater, via overland flow, to a city-owned parcel that is currently leased for agricultural use.
