Description

As of December 27, 2022, the owner has selected a Construction Manager and the project is in permit review. Construction is anticipated to start in Summer of 2023. This project includes: demolition of four concrete low-head dams, construction of in-channel features that include wave and riffle features to increase hydraulic diversity and improve aquatic habitat, augmentation of bridge pier scour protection with riprap, riparian shoreline improvement, and installation of shoreline access points. All questions regarding the Statement of Qualifications may be submitted by email to Michael Staal, Project Manager, mstaal@grcity.us. Questions must be submitted by April 18, 2022. June 7, 2022 Recommendation to enter into a Construction Management Agreement to City Commission for consideration The Construction Manager shall furnish a Performance Bond and Labor and Material Payment Bond each in an amount equal to the total contract price on all projects for which the contract amount is $50,000 or more meeting all statutory requirements of the State of Michigan and complying with the following specific requirements The City and Grand Rapids Whitewater reserves the right to reject or disregard any Statement of Qualifications, in whole or in part, based on the partner's sole discretion. The Grand River runs through the heart of the City of Grand Rapids, and the project extents start 130 feet upstream of Bridge Street and run to the upstream face of the Fulton Street Bridge. The goals of the project are to do the following: o Reduce public safety hazards generated by low-head dams o Create diverse riffles, runs, waves, pools; restore aquatic riverine habitat and diversity o Improve fish passage o Recapture the sight, sound, and spirit of the historic and iconic rapids, for which the City is named o Enhance distinctive recreational opportunities such as wading, angling, and whitewater paddling sports, that are safe, interesting, and substantial enough to attract tourists and serve as a catalyst for local, regional, and equitable economic development opportunities.
