Description

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has a requirement for the Installation of Security Lights and Pavement in the parking area at the Airport Surveillance Radar Facility Asheville, North Carolina. a) Install ten GFM light poles, to include precast concrete foundation, pole, lamp holder and lamp (all GFM), as located on the drawings. Pole locations may vary slightly to avoid underground utilities. b) Install four GFM handholes, located per the drawings. The two larger handholes are for circuit 2, and the two smaller are for circuits 1 and 3, and are located in the curbing, along the plot’s south side. c) Install CFM lighting controller (LC-1) on the existing electrical rack. Install a 1P, 30A breaker in DP-1 to feed LC-1, and align its photo cell to true south. d) Install wiring from DP1-1 to LC-1 to each light and lamp fixture per the lighting wiring diagram. All underground wiring shall be in new or existing conduit, min 24” deep, and pass through handholes where present. e) Ground each lamp post with a length of green insulated #6 ground wire from the pole’s ground lug, exothermically welded to an adjacent 10’ x 3/4” copper-clad ground rod. f) Label all poles and handholes with permanently-affixed brass markers, and properly label all cables in all handholes with waterproof tags. g) Install approximately 120’ of concrete curb and gutter, along the plot’s south side per the drawings. Curb top shall be flush with existing mow strip, so minor regrading is needed in this area. Install curb flares around the light poles and adjacent handholes, whose top shall be flush with mow strip as well. Curb and gutter shall include contractions and expansion joints, and shall be sloped so as to not retain runoff. h) Existing plot is mostly graveled, but not to the limits of paving. Remove earth and install 8” of compacted gravel subgrade aggregate atop the plot to those areas as necessary. Approximately 1000 SF (110 SY) of new subgrade is needed. Also, remove any vegetation from the existing graveled areas, and smooth out subbase to receive pavement. Subbase elevation at the edge of existing pavement at the gate and around the existing manhole adjacent to the fuel tank shall be 3” lower, so as to provide a smooth transition upon pavement installation. i) Install a 1.5” compacted depth of bituminous asphalt base course atop the plot per limits shown on drawings. Area to be paved is approximately 15,700 SF (1,744 SY). j) Apply a tack coat atop the entire base course. k) Install a 1.5” compacted depth of bituminous asphalt top course atop the base course. Area to be paved is approximately 15,700 SF (1,744 SY). l) Install two paved humps at the western end of pavement per the drawings. Hump shall not extend onto gutter, and both shall have a 6” opening at its middle, for water drainage. m) Stripe the parking lot per drawings. n) Install a new exit loop and a new safety loop and route their leads back to the gate opener. Terminate these leads on the proper terminals and demonstrate their proper operation. See drawings.
