Description | As of February 03, 2023, project will rebid. No definite date for the rebid. Fairhaven High School Historic Wood Window Restoration (within existing Library) The Fairhaven School Department has authorized a maximum expenditure of $140,000 total for this project. The bids may not exceed $140,000. The Fairhaven School Department seeks to engage an experienced and qualified contractor to accomplish restoration of designated historic wood window sashes, sills, and adjacent interior surfaces at the Fairhaven High School, located at 12 Huttleston Avenue. The work will be confined to the existing high school library. Removal and reinstallation of window sashes will need to be coordinated with school administration during school hours. The contractor must provide evidence of similar projects available for inspection. These projects should have similar conditions to those required for this project. Questions or clarifications concerning this IFB must be made in writing, addressed to John Hecker, Spencer Preservation Group, at the address of the Architect, email at john@spencerpreservationgroup.com at least five (5) days prior to the due date The Work of the Project is defined by the Contract Documents and consists of the following: 1. Restoration of existing wood window sashes and sills. 2. Interior restoration of water-damaged wood window trim sashes, casings and trim (see Unit Prices Section 01 22 00 and Drawings for further description of scope of work). 3. Removal of one existing exterior door and interior stairs at the east gable. 4. Fabrication and installation of new, horizontal stone transom section between lowest and middle window sections, to be replicated at east gable: - New stone is to be Indiana limestone. o Cut new stone section to match profiles of existing stone at corresponding locations at north and west gables. o Anchor new stone section in-place using stainless steel dowels set into ends of new and existing stone using epoxy adhesives designed for this purpose. o Employ stone mason experienced in stone restoration work. o Color and texture of new Indiana limestone replacement stone is to match existing stone color and texture to greatest degree possible. 5. Fabrication of new wood window sashes at east gable: o Match new sashes to existing window sashes in corresponding locations at north and west gables. o New window sashes and all associated window frames, sash stops, casings, sills, and trim to be of rift-sawn and/or quarter-sawn white oak. o Use existing window units as templates for all replication work. Replaced window sashes and associated trim are to match existing historic windows with respect to moulding profiles and widths of stiles and rails. o Apply finishes to match existing interior stained finishes and exterior painted surfaces. Provide new thermal glazing and new hardware (sash lifts, sash locks, sash chains, sash pulleys, etc.) for a fully functional window. |
