Description | The University of Texas at Austin, on behalf of Capital Planning and Construction, has posted a bid opportunity for the Engineering Discovery Building project. The Project will provide approximately 210,000 GSF of critically needed space that will serve as the focus for education and research related to chemical and petroleum engineering within the Cockrell School of Engineering. The design will include flexible classrooms and open office areas to maximize flexibility. Laboratories will be designed to meet current needs for wet labs, but be as generic as possible to maximize flexibility for future uses. Abatement and demolition of the SER is a requirement of the Project. Owner may utilize design-assist subcontracting to execute the Project. The design and preconstruction team engaged in the Definition Phase will incorporate appropriate constructability expertise and may procure Design-Assist subcontractors at completion of Schematic Design or later. Owner expects constructability review and detailed cost estimating from the design team and pre-construction team throughout all phases of design. The Definition Phase is intended to clearly establish the scope approved for the Project; more completely forecast the overall anticipated costs; and define a reliable schedule with thorough constructability review and detailed cost estimating from the design team and Construction Manager-at-Risk. The preliminary CCL for the Project is $169,650,000. Fees, furnishings, equipment, other work, miscellaneous expenses, and cost of enabling sub-projects not included in the CCL comprise the PPC balance of $261M.
