Description | The general nature of the work on which bids are requested is: Services contract for routine maintenance and emergency service repairs including but not limited to a large variety of boiler maintenance and repairs, structural steel, pump and piping work, and other miscellaneous mechanical power plant work for the Ames Electric Services Power Plant located at 200 E. 5th Street, Ames, Iowa. Successful bidder will provide all labor, supervision, equipment, materials, supplies, and all required documentation, and other components necessary to perform required services. First term of contract shall be from date of award through June 30, 2024. The contract is renewable for up to four additional one-year terms. Each bidder shall accompany its bid with bid security as defined in Code of Iowa Section 26.8 and as specified in the Instructions to Bidders. Said bid security shall be based on an amount equal to at least 5% of the total budgeted amount of $495,000. The city manager shall announce the results of the bidding, together with his recommendations thereon, to the City Council at its meeting to be held at 6:00 o'clock p.m. local time on February 14, 2023. All bids shall be submitted to said city clerk on or before the time set herein for the bid opening. Bids shall be made on the Bid Form furnished by the City of Ames, in a sealed and plainly marked envelope indicating it is a bid in response to this notice. Each bidder shall accompany its bid with bid security as defined in Code of Iowa Section 26.8 and as specified in the Instructions to Bidders. Said bid security shall be based on an amount equal to at least 5% of the total budgeted amount of $495,000. The City of Ames reserves the right to defer acceptance of any bid for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days after receipt of bids, and no bid may be withdrawn during this period. Each successful bidder shall be required to furnish a corporate surety bond in an amount equal to one hundred percent (100%) of its contract price. Said bond to be issued by a responsible surety and approved by the City Council and shall guarantee the faithful performance of the contract and the terms and conditions therein contained and shall guarantee the prompt payment of all material and labor, and protect and save harmless the City from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operations of the contract and shall also guarantee the maintenance of the improvement in good repair for a period of one (1) year from and after the completion and acceptance by the City. The City of Ames, Iowa has imposed a one-percent local option sales tax. Each bidder is responsible for determining how these taxes may affect the bid submitted for this project. Questions concerning application of the one-percent local option sales tax and the 1% tax for local schools should be addressed to the Iowa Department of Revenue, Hoover State Office Building, Des Moines, Iowa 50319. Bidders are advised that most goods and services purchased for the Electric Services Department are subject to State of Iowa sales taxes. Freight and some services are exempt from these taxes. As required by Iowa Administrative Code 875, Chapter 156, the bidder shall complete and submit the Bidder Status Form with its bid and certify its state or country of domicile by completing the address section of the Bid Form. By virtue of statutory authority, preference will be given to products and provision grown and coal produced within the State of Iowa, and to Iowa labor, to the extent lawfully required under Iowa statutes. The City does hereby reserve the right to reject any or all bids, to waive informalities, and to enter into such contract, or contracts, as it shall deem to be in the best interest of the City.
