Description | https://www.bizjournals.com/albany/news/2023/04/17/cdta-schenectady-gateway-mobility-center.html Construction has started on a $4 million project from the Capital District Transportation Authority and Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority at a busy intersection in Schenectady The new transportation center — called the Gateway Mobility Center — is under development across from SUNY Schenectady between Washington Avenue, State Street and S. Church Street. Carver Construction is doing the work. Once construction is complete, the center will ease access to ten routes, including one of CDTA’s busiest bus rapid transit (BRT) lines, the Bus Plus Red Line, which goes along Route 5 connecting downtown Albany and downtown Schenectady. The improvements will support the future expansion of CDTA service into Montgomery County. The mobility center will also improve access to CDTA’s other services, including its electric car share program, called Drive, and its bike share, CDPHP Cycle. The project is the first of its kind in the region. The development is happening in a part of lower State Street that has seen new apartments, restaurants and other commercial development in the last few years. Completion is expected by the end of July. Construction includes new sidewalks with snow and ice melt systems, upgraded traffic signals, a bus-only turn-off and a new enclosed waiting area. The project also includes improvements to Gateway Plaza Park, with new lighting, seating and landscaping. Adjacent parking spaces and EV charging stations will also be added. The project is estimated to cost $4 million, about 80% of which will be covered by federal funding. The other 20% is CDTA funding. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This project involves the construction and upgrades of bus stations, curb bump-outs, traffic signal improvements, concrete sidewalk work, parking area and landscaping at in the area of State Street and Railroad Avenue on the City of Schenectady.
