Riverview Energy Diesel Plant

Plans call for the construction of a plant that will convert coal reserves into diesel fuel. Further scope has not been released. As of August 2, 2022, a judge has ruled in favor of the issuance of the air quality permit however, an appeal has been filed by Southwestern Indiana Citizens for Quality of Life and Valley Watch Inc. Oral arguments for the appeal were held on August 30, 2021. This project is in the early planning stages, and pending a building permit approval from the Spencer County Planning Commission. The Air Quality Permit was issued by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management on June 11, 2019. On July 9, 2019, the SOUTHWESTERN INDIANA CITIZENS FOR QUALITY OF LIFE, INC. AND VALLEY WATCH, INC. have filed an appeal for the air quality permit. On October 14, 2020, Earthjustice filed an appeal to stop the time extension of the permit that extends the permit to June 2022. The Spencer County Commissioners voted in favor of supporting IDEM's approval of the air permit application. The RFP process has not started nor has a date been announced. Information regarding the selection of an architect and general contractor has not been provided.
