| Description | The project is located in the Driftless Area of the Upper Midwest in the Paint Creek Unit of Yellow River State Forest in section 1, Linton Township (T96N, R4W) in Allamakee County, Iowa (UTM 641960 E, 4779788 N). This project involves planting bareroot seedlings on three retired crop fields (21.9 acres, 4.8 acres, 11.7 acres) totaling 38.4 acres. The soils are mostly Fayette and Dubuque silt loams. All three fields drain into the Paint Creek watershed. The ground cover at the time of planting will be corn stubble residue. Corn stocks were baled by the farmer the previous fall. |
