Description

https://shoredailynews.com/headlines/alternatives-being-explored-for-renovation-of-northampton-high-school/ - Alternatives are being explored to lower the cost of the renovation of the Northampton County High School. According to County Administrator Charlie Kolakowski, different methods are being explored, which may utilize more of the current building and therefore lead to less to demolish and less to build new. The County has invited engineers who have conducted similar projects to the school and aiding in the process find more affordable ways to complete the project. The renovation of the high school, at one point estimated to be $29 million, received a low bid of $84 million on August 11 of this year. _____________________________________________ The project is generally described as both renovation and addition of existing school and CTE building. The renovation building construction totaling 88,852 square feet will include minor structural alterations, replacement of brick veneer, replacement of the complete roof, new geothermal well system with associated mechanical equipment, new sprinkler system, fire alarm system, plumbing systems and fixtures, electrical systems, interior systems to include new partitions, casework, doors and finishes, hazard material abatement. The addition building construction totaling 86,472 square feet will include wall footings, column footings, thickened slabs, steel columns, steel beams and joists, metal deck roofing with modified 2 ply bitumen for low roofs and standing seam for high roofs, CMU with brick veneer exterior closure, geothermal well system with associated HVAC equipment, plumbing, fire alarm and fire sprinkler system, and food service equipment. The project consists of the renovation and additions to the existing Northampton High School and Career and Technical Education (CTE) building on the same site. After completion of the project, the renovated high school facility will be utilized as a combined Middle and High School building. The CTE building will get a minor storage addition, but the extent of the work in this building will consist of interior renovations and replacement of building systems. All buildings are one story. The project will be phased construction and will be occupied during construction. Hazardous materials abatement, building demolition and site demolition are included in the project. Sitework will include geothermal wells, drainage excavations, utilities, storm drainage, fill, soil erosion, curbs and sidewalks, roads, lawn areas, bioretention areas, fencing and landscaping. Project includes new stormwater features and engineered infrastructure for on grade and underground items: plumbing, mechanical, electrical building systems, and tie-in to existing and/or new building systems. Renovations to existing athletic fields or stadium is not included in the scope of work, except as may be outlined in the bid documents
