Wilbur Reservoir Bridge Replacement Project

TVA is proposing to replace the roadway bridge across Wilbur Reservoir in Carter County, TN, near Elizabethton. The bridge carries Wilbur Dam Road across the reservoir and provides the only vehicular access to local residences and TVA hydropower and recreation sites. With its modern construction, the new bridge will provide enhanced safety for homeowners, employees of the Watauga Dam and visitors to the recreational attractions in the area. To minimize disruption in the area served by the Wilbur Dam Road Bridge, TVA is proposing to construct and open the new bridge adjacent to the current structure, prior to demolishing the existing bridge. During this construction, there may be lane restrictions or closures for brief periods, construction and heavy equipment traffic, and construction-related noise. In compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act, TVA has prepared a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) that addresses the proposals environmental impacts. The draft EA is now available for public review and comment Comments on the proposal and the EA must be received on or before July 24, 2023. TVA will host a public open house at the Watauga Dam Visitors Center (Wilbur Dam Road) on July 11, 2023, from 5 - 7 p.m.
